In my opinion, the impending budget cuts show what each department and the university values. Here is a recent example of misplaced values.

An outstanding College of Journalism and Communications professor, Dr. Judy Robinson, is one of many whose job security is in jeopardy. She models effective teaching strategies, responds to student needs, incorporates cutting-edge technologies, inspires innovative thinking and designs meaningful assignments. Her class has been one of the best courses of my graduate career.

During the semester, the class's lab has received an overhead projector ($2,000 - $4,000) and an Elmo projector ($800-$3000) to replace ones in perfect condition. With financial restraints, we should reduce operating expenses and keep outstanding faculty. If we use projectors until they need to be replaced, perhaps we could make it through the recession without cutting faculty. The teachers are the ones who are going to educate us, not the equipment. Stop spending money on equipment and keep the people who are contributing to the university's success.
