The ways in which our university manages its budget have never made sense to me, but as an undergraduate student striving to continue my education through graduate studies and independent research, I find one policy even more misguided than most - transcript fees.

Six dollars may seem inconsequential, especially to someone uninterested in applying for prestigious scholarships, graduate school, study abroad programs, internships, or permanent employment, but to many of us, $6 represents the tip of a Titanic-sized iceberg. I understand and support the administration's endeavors to embrace fiscal responsibility, but why penalize this university's highest achievers?

Why should students applying for top graduate programs and prestigious scholarships pay while the less ambitious among us slide by tax-free?
