As if Turlington fliering didn't drive students bananas already, a man in a gorilla suit chased a man dressed as a banana alongside about 170 people holding hands in a line stretching from the Hub to the Plaza of the Americas on Wednesday afternoon.
This was one of the promotional stunts AFTERdark used to publicize its Christian show tonight at 8:30 in the O'Connell Center. The night will consist of a concert by Copeland, an alternative rock band from Florida, and a presentation from Joe White, a frequent inspirational speaker to the NFL and MLB, said Andrew Hanna, student director of the UF event.
"He is one of the most incredible influential speakers of our time," Hanna said.
Don Ford, president of AFTERdark, started the nationwide organization in October 2000. The event has been to over 100 college campuses across the U.S., and several hundred thousand students have been in attendance.
"We just wanted to expose college students to the person of Jesus so they could decide if they felt like he was in any way relevant to their lives today," Ford said.
