The Santa Fe College Saints (2-1) were unable to march on against Pensacola Junior College (2-1) Sunday and were stopped 18-6.
The Saints had four errors, stranded eight men on base and gave up 14 hits for the game.
"These guys will be ready to play," SFC coach Johnny Wiggs said. "This is a pretty confident team, they will play well and we will be able to bounce back."
Currently ranked No. 6 in Florida and No. 19 in the nation, the Saints have a lot to live up to. SFC, the 2007 Mid-Florida Conference Co-Champion, is determined to stay in every this spring.
SFC designated hitter Brett Bozeman provided the team with two hits and three RBIs. Fellow Saint and first/third basemen, Trace Venegas managed to have two hits and score once.
"We didn't pitch well enough. We didn't swing the bats at all," Wiggs said. "We have to do a better job of swinging the bats with guys in scoring position and work on our pitching."
PJC's Bear Comer and Derek Jeter each had three hits. Aside from sharing his name with the shortstop for the New York Yankees, Jeter also had three RBIs and two runs on Sunday.
Gary Merians (0-1) took the loss for the Saints.
SFC won its first two games Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader with South Georgia College. The Saints took the second game 7-6 in 11 innings when Ryan Matthews scored on a passed ball. SFC had a much easier time in the first game, beating South Georgia 11-1 behind a winning effort from righty Shane McIntyre (1-0).
