A registered sex offender was arrested Friday in connection with Tuesday's bank robbery of Campus USA Credit Union.
Clinton Ponce, 27, was under investigation during the time of the robbery for giving authorities a faulty address after moving to Alachua County. Registered sex offenders must notify officials within 48 hours of an address change.
When the still photo of the bank robbery came out, Gainesville Police Department investigators Jim McCollum and Courtnay Roberts recognized Ponce from prior investigations, said GPD spokesman Keith Kameg.
Ponce was arrested at the Alachua County Public Library at about 2:30 p.m. when police got a tip that he was in the area.
After interviews with GPD and the FBI, Ponce admitted to the bank robbery.
He had been released from prison Feb. 7 after a 2001 child pornography conviction, Kameg said.
"In six days of Ponce's relevant freedom, he committed two felonies," Kameg said.
Ponce was charged with failing to register his address as a registered sex offender and bank robbery.
