After a whirlwind evening rubbing elbows with the likes of Beyonce and Shakira, the Editorial Board wouldn't have faulted President Barack Obama for taking a breather on Wednesday.

Hardly the case.

Obama hit the ground running as he carried himself like a well-seasoned veteran. Wannabe contenders for 2012 - now's a good time to start taking notes.

From placing limitations on lobbyists to freezing the salaries of top aides, Obama took on the arduous task of cleaning up the mess left behind by former President George W. Bush.

But what really impressed the Editorial Board was late-breaking news Tuesday night out of Washington announcing the first delivery on an Obama campaign promise.

Finally entrenched in the Oval Office-with no thanks to Chief Justice John Roberts-Obama will sign an executive order today to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay within one year. Additionally, the legislation will bring an end to military trials of the individuals being held at the facility.

The Editorial Board applauds Obama for wasting no time at all in taking the necessary steps to close what has become a black-eye for America's image. With less than 48 hours of running the country under his belt, Obama's fast start in office offers America what is a hopefully a sign of things to come.

Hmm, we wonder if the same could've been said for Dubya's first day?
