I would like to send out a newsflash to Dean Early, as he is the embodiment of rotten Christianity. As a Christian, he should know that we are not called to be respected. We are not to be honored or given the same leeway as other religions.
That said, his article was the most hateful, bigoted garbage I've read in some time. I would ask the UF campus to not take his words as representative of the greater Christian population.
Perhaps Early should pick up his Bible, as he will find his behavior closer to that of the Pharisees than Christ. The world, or Gainesville, is not waiting for the "message" to get out in hateful and insensitive ways.
They've heard it all before. They are waiting for us to show them something different, intriguing, and thought-provoking. What Early has done with his self-martyring, hypocritical tirade is further alienate his community from the most incredible thing in existence.
I, as a Christian, will not join him in his quest for pseudo-justice. I will, however, join the homosexuals in their offense at an unloving, bigoted Turlington preacher, for that is damage worth repairing. As far as I'm concerned, Dean Early, your convoluted, violent religion, complete with all its rules and violence, can go to hell.
I'll be here, with my Bible and my Jesus, treading quietly against the tsunamis of hatred you so readily dish out.
