The Editorial Board knows a little something about junk food.
Let's just say there may or may not be an overflowing box of goodies ranging from animal crackers to Pop-Tarts waiting to be eaten in the middle of the newsroom.
When we heard Ben & Jerry's very own Jerry Greenfield visited Gainesville on Friday, our hearts sank a bit knowing we could've had our ice cream scooped by a living legend.
From flavors like Cherry Garcia to Phish Food, the ex-hippies Ben & Jerry have concocted some of the best waistline expanding desserts known to man. While we certainly don't mind the occasional jaunt to Cold Stone Creamery or The Gelato Company, there is something to be said about Ben & Jerry's overload of mix-ins guaranteed in every bite.
We can only imagine how cool it would have been to talk with Greenfield about the humble beginnings of setting up an ice cream shop at an abandoned gas station in Vermont.
Greenfield is living the dream - no longer involved with the day-to-day operations of the company - he is free to travel the country promoting the brand and relishing in his celebrity.
Whether it's a midnight run to the The Pantry at the local Kangaroo or getting a cone at the store on University Avenue, there is no denying that Ben & Jerry's is an ice cream institution college students will continue to crave for generations to come.
Excuse us while we put down our pints and make ourselves a garden salad.
