Typically synonymous with Super Bowl week, celebrity-filled bashes may be taking a backseat to the game thanks to the sputtering economy.

Perhaps the most highly recognizable party from year to year, Playboy's slumping circulation forced Hugh Hefner to cancel his annual gala in favor of a scaled-down affair.

Hef isn't the only one coming to terms with a depleted bank account, as neither Nike nor TIME will be partying it up on Florida's left coast this weekend.

Let the Editorial Board shed a tear for all the A-listers and socialites who are feeling the effects of the recession perhaps for the very first time.

Don't fret, Gator Nation; there will be more than a few soirees in Tampa if you are on the fence about making the drive down I-75.

It's hardly a surprise, but legendary partyer Sean "Diddy" Combs, who probably doesn't know how to spell r-e-c-e-s-s-i-o-n, plans to throw what should prove to be quite the blowout.

Dubbed "The Good Life Experience," Diddy's three-day event will feature the ultimate in opulence as party decor reportedly includes a plethora of diamonds and pearls.

And the strangest event of the week? A party hosted by boxer Antonio Tarver and Nelly at a science museum. The Editorial Board must concede we had no idea celebrities go for the whole wine and dinosaur thing.

So maybe you won't be rubbing elbows with Playboy bunnies or complimenting Hef on his smoking jacket, but we can assure you Kim Kardashian and her sisters will be running around somewhere.

They count as celebrities, right?
