The BCS is a flawed system that has ruined the mystique of the bowls that existed before 1998.

Kyle Whittingham, head coach of the Utah Utes, would like to schedule his team against "big" out-of-conference opponents, but the only team that accepted the request this season was Michigan.

They beat the team that was ranked at the top for most of the season in Alabama, yet they received little to no respect from the media.

Out of the teams with one loss, Texas' defeat came on the best play of the year, while UF's was the worst occurring in the Swamp by a good, but still developing Mississippi team.

The Atlantic Coast Conference was 6-6 against the Southeastern Conference this year and the Big East Conference had the best winning percentage of any league, even though these conferences are perceived as weak. There is parity in college football that the media continues to ignore.

UF's only challenge for next season is LSU, as the team does not play Alabama or Mississippi during the regular season.

They will not even play the next two best SEC teams until the SEC Championship Game.

Even in the plus-one system, some analysts left off Utah and instead placed Texas, USC, Oklahoma and UF.

An eight-team playoff is the best way to remove the doubts.

Until we get that system, the national championship will continue to be judged by the media and computers rather than settled on the field. Congratulations to the Gators on the win, but doubts will be attached to that crystal ball.
