It has recently come to my attention that there are some in the media who do not believe Florida should be crowned the BCS National Champion.

Some say Utah is more deserving, while others mention USC. I would like to point out that in the Sagarin ratings in USA Today, Florida ranked No. 4 in strength of schedule, while Utah came in at a dismal No. 56.

Utah had a chance to equalize its low conference schedule by adding top nonconference opponents.

However, Michigan, Utah State, Oregon State and Weber State were all unranked at kickoff. Utah beat six bowl teams - only three ranked. Florida beat 10 bowl teams, six of them ranked.

As for USC, I find it to be hypocritical for complaining when it is its own conference, the Pacific-10, that has been one of the biggest hinderances toward establishing a playoff system.

The Pac-10 and the Big Ten have insisted on preserving the BCS in order to protect their financially secured investments in the Rose Bowl.

Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen has even threatened to leave the BCS should a plus-1 system be implemented.

Therefore, I call for a conference realignment. The Pac-10 should add Boise State and Utah, split into two divisions and establish a conference championship.

The Big 10 should follow suit by adding Notre Dame and splitting into two divisions.

Unfortunately, the Pac-10 and the Big 10 have no interest in making financial sacrifices in order to advance the game. The situation may need the arbitration of a third party - President-elect Obama, take note.
