I was disappointed with Phil Newman's comment in Monday's article about the Pearl Harbor memorial ceremony.
To say that young people no longer care about the nation's veterans is a terrible misconception.
While some college students may care more about the Gators clinching the Southeastern Conference title and a BCS National Championship Game berth, there are plenty of us who took time out of our Sunday afternoon to pay our respects to the men and women who served in the military during the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
I was in attendance with a group of student veterans and saw several other young people there.
As a graduate student with no personal connection to the military, I've been an avid supporter of our local veterans since I moved to Gainesville.
I regularly attend football and basketball games and stay updated on all things Gators, but I still find time to support veterans of all ages.
I can assure Mr. Newman that I am among hundreds of UF students who dedicate their free time to supporting veterans (and active service members) in any way we can.
