Last week's violent attacks in Mumbai, India, echoed back to the UF campus, and the UF Lubavitch-Chabad Jewish Student and Community Center held a public memorial and vigil service to mourn the victims of the attacks.
UF students and faculty cannot allow these acts of terror to pass by unnoticed. We cannot be so shortsighted as to ignore a large-scale act of senseless violence simply because it didn't happen on American soil.
Acts of terror, like the one that struck Mumbai last week, require our attention because they could happen to us again. We cannot pick and choose when to care.
Just because a nation halfway around the world was hit this time doesn't mean it shouldn't serve as a reminder to Americans of the terror that befell us a little more than seven years ago.
We encourage everyone to make an effort to lend their sympathies to the victims of the Mumbai attacks.
As Americans, we know how we felt when we first heard about the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. We have to remember the sadness an act of terror can bring to a nation.
If you missed the memorial held Tuesday night at the Lubavitch-Chabad Center, don't worry: the Indian Graduate Student Association will be holding a similar service at 6 p.m. at the Reitz Union Amphitheatre.
This service is open to everyone. The Editorial Board encourages anyone who can make it to take part.
