The Gator Party's vote to cut off students' time to address the Student Senate - and Gator Party Leader Jonathan Fager's attempt to rationalize that decision in yesterday's letter - shows that the Gator Party just doesn't want to hear from students.

At the Nov. 18 Senate meeting, dozens of students, including many who had never been involved in Student Government before, used public debate to speak out against six Gator Party-proposed bills to limit debate and eliminate minority protections.

I was delighted to see so many UF students get involved in SG. Apparently, the Gator Party finds the voice of regular students so offensive they now seek to curtail their right to address their representatives.

The Gator Party claims they want to make things more efficient. When real-world legislation is introduced, such as the bill I wrote to keep hand scanners optional at RecSports facilities (something 84 percent of students agreed on in the last election), the Gator Party quickly votes to shut down debate.

The Gator Party needs to stop ignoring students and start getting real work done.
