Professors are not doing their students any favors by rescheduling final exams to the last week of classes.
As per UF policies, students are given two reading days in which to prepare for the upcoming tests prior to final exam week. By changing the exams, often at the last minute, professors are not considering the needs of students or the established policies of UF.
With the final exam schedule, protocol ensures students have reading days to study and that they do not have to take more than three exams on a given day. These rights cease to exist when professors reschedule exams at the last minute.
I understand many students are in a hurry to get home for winter break, but many of us have been working diligently all semester only to have our grades suffer after having to take five exams in a 48-hour period.
It is not in the best interests of students to reschedule exams the second-to-last week of classes, which essentially requires all-nighters, caffeine binges and cramming.
Professors should be able to schedule exams early for those interested but should still be required to offer exams at the scheduled exam period for students who want the option.
