Those among The Gator Nation who are making a list and checking it twice this season can cross off finding a card to send out for the holidays.
For the second time, UF is offering a selection of electronic cards adorned with Gator and holiday spirit that anyone can download and e-mail.
Last year, UF President Bernie Machen encouraged the switch to electronic exchanges of holiday merriment to save trees and money.
In addition to the nine new cards offered this season, there is an animated card available in which snowflakes flutter in front of Century Tower, outlined in a string of lights.
"It adds another element of fun," said Dan Williams, UF's director of marketing communications in University Relations.
The cards can be found at http://identity.ufl.edu/gatorNation/cards.html.
While the free, ready-made cards won't put a damper on a holiday budget, there is a price for those seeking a personalized touch.
The University Relations Publication Group, which designs the cards, can create a custom-made card with a personal message and design, Williams said.
While some may feel paper cards are more personal, Williams said the economy has made cost-cutting cards acceptable.
"There was a time when I think an electronic card would have been considered less sensitive," Williams said.
Williams said he includes a message on his card touting UF's earth-friendly commitment to sustainability to show recepients that his e-card isn't prompted by cheapness.
Chris Brazda, UF Foundation spokesman, said thousands of dollars were saved on printing and postage last year by making the transition to online.
Of the 55,000 members in the UF Alumni Association, about 30,000 will receive holiday cheer via cyberspace.
Those with no e-mail on file will get nothing, Brazda said.
Williams said he has yet to select his e-card.
"I should probably be giving that thought fairly soon," he said. "To be honest, I haven't even gone holiday shopping yet, so I'm in trouble."
