As a smoker on campus, I have been told to move to beyond 50 feet by a UF employee. Not nicely or properly, but in the form of walking by, saying "50 Feet!"
Most students would have had no idea what she was saying.
I was already standing about 50 feet from the building.
Stand next to a building the next time you are on campus. Take 17 strides (no baby steps, they should be about three feet each). You are now about 50 feet from the building.
See how close you are, then think about how silly this policy is.
Why not set up small smoking areas in a few places across campus instead of sweeping bans?
Santa Fe College's policy is being better enforced because their police officers will write you a ticket.
