The Olam Cafe, located in Hillel, has launched a line of kosher options available at campus convenience stores.

Avie Friederwitzer, the cafe's food service director, worked with Aramark, UF's food service provider, to make kosher options available at on-campus convenience locations, including Beaty Market, Little Hall Express, Pugh Hall, Graham Oasis and Sun Terrace at Shands at UF.

All locations offer the cafe's three soups, 16 salads and kosher-deli sandwiches, such as pastrami, brisket, salami and turkey.

Rabbi Yoni Kaiser-Blueth, associate director of Jewish Student Life, said a food is kosher when it complies with traditional Jewish dietary laws. The laws include instructions on how to slaughter an animal, what ingredients can be used and how to prepare the meat.

Friederwitzer said he plans to continue expanding the cafe's products by adding dry goods, canned goods and chocolate.

The main concern of both the Hillel and the Olam Cafe is to give students more options when dining out.

Although the cafe's main demographic is Jewish students, Friederwitzer said the product's line was created to give more options to all students.

"People like kosher deli," said Keith Dvorchik, executive director of Hillel. "You don't just have to be a Jew."
