MTV is looking for a good love story.
Casting crews for the show "Engaged & Underage" will be stopping by various Gainesville and UF campus locations from Saturday through Tuesday morning in search of young couples, ages 18 to 22, who are ready to get hitched.
"For young people to take on that challenge and commit to each other, it's a huge deal," said Amy Gretenstein, MTV casting coordinator.
For two seasons, the show has presented military couples, virgins and Mormons in its diverse set of episodes.
The show is part of MTV's news and documentary series, Gretenstein said.
"The goal is to show a love story but also to understand how it's a long road and that there are many obstacles, especially at a young age," said Jennifer Halpern, the show's casting associate producer.
Gretenstein said the casting crew will roam campus and other popular Gainesville locations, such as Saturday's Gator football game and The Oaks Mall, to seek interested couples. Those interested can also call 347-933-2562 for information about interviews, she said.
For four to five months, the casting crew sets off across the nation and shoots weddings at various times of the year. In Florida, they hope to find UF students in Gainesville as well as other couples in Orlando and Tallahassee.
Camera crews document the couple during the week leading up to the wedding, including the wedding itself, but focus more on the couple's story, Halpern said.
"Especially when so many other things in the world are not so heartwarming, it's comforting to see two people who really exist and are tackling the world with many things against them," she said.
