Gainesville's roads will be dominated by the roar of motorcycles Sunday as participants of the eighth annual Bikers on Parade for the USA attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest parade of motorcycles.
Founder Ralph Cameron said he hopes the 23-mile charity parade, which is the longest in the country, will be able to raise $100,000 for the North Central Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross and local veterans' causes.
Registration for the parade will be from 9 a.m. until noon at Santa Fe College and costs $25 for riders and $15 for passengers. The opening ceremony will be at noon, and the parade will begin at 12:45 p.m. The route, which will begin and end at SFC, will take motorcyclists on main roads like Northwest 43rd Avenue, University Avenue and Northwest 16th Avenue.
Cameron said he often tells participants that the parade is not only for a good cause but gives motorcyclists a chance to run more red lights than they would in a lifetime.
