The game was over in the first quarter, so it's understandable to just get the basics in.
Louis Murphy's 18-yard touchdown pass just four minutes in set the tone for No. 3 UF, and the Gators (10-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference) kept pouring it on The Citadel (4-8) in their 70-19 victory Saturday afternoon.
The result of this game was never in doubt - just 17 minutes into the game, the Gators were on pace for 124 points. Starting quarterback Tim Tebow was out of the game with five minutes to go in the second quarter, as was wide receiver Percy Harvin.
Tebow added three passing touchdowns to his stats, and Harvin had 125 yards in the first quarter.
Instead of the score, Saturday's story was Senior Day.
It had been seven years since Javier Estopinan scored a touchdown.
The Gators' redshirt senior defensive tackle didn't get too many opportunities in between that time and Saturday considering he plays on the other side of the ball, but Saturday was different.
With the Gators already ahead 49-6 early in the third quarter, the 290-pound Estopinan got his first touchdown since his sophomore year of high school on a 1-yard run. He plowed through one Citadel player before crossing the goal line.
"I just wanted to make sure I had the ball," Estopinan said.
It was an especially proud moment for Estopinan considering he has recovered from three separate ACL injuries in his UF career. Coach Urban Meyer knew that, and wanted to make the day memorable.
"I said, 'We're going to get you a touchdown," Meyer said. "We actually practiced that, and it worked."
Estopinan was surprised earlier in the week when Meyer told him they might try the play, telling Meyer he was "crazy and he's lying," and Estopinan was shocked when the team called his number in the huddle.
"He's stingy with his touchdowns," Estopinan said of Meyer. "I mean, there's so many playmakers on offense, you would never think you're going to get a touchdown."
Estopinan said he considered celebrating the touchdown, but "was so dazed and confused, I didn't know what to do."
Senior running back Kestahn Moore said Estopinan's size may have helped him out.
"You put him in there, and then nobody wants to tackle him," Moore said. "It was just an easy 6 for Javi."
Players had a hard time tackling Moore during the day as well.
This season, he has been largely replaced this season by faster, younger running backs, but he
had six carries in the first half - more than any other Gator - as he rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
"Actually it felt great," Moore said. "I haven't been in the end zone for a minute."
Meyer frequently praises Moore, especially his blocking ability, despite the senior's lack of playing time and impact on the scoreboard.
"I love Kestahn Moore," Meyer said. "I really believe he's going to play at the next level."
Senior receiver Louis Murphy left the game before the halftime whistle blew, but he accumulated 24 yards on two catches and scored the Gators' first touchdown of the afternoon.
Now, the focus for UF is next weekend's FSU game. For many players, the focus may have changed to FSU even during Saturday's game.
"It probably switched at halftime, to be honest with you, for the Pounceys of the world, the Tebows, the Murphys and Spikes," Meyer said. "They'll be ready to go. This is a big week. They understand that."
A victory against the Seminoles on Saturday could set up the Gators for a national championship game berth with a win over Alabama on Dec. 6 in the SEC Championship Game.
"I can't imagine a more important two weeks in the history of Florida football than what's (next) against two very good football teams," Meyer said.
MEYER COMMENTS ON NEWTON: Meyer was in disbelief when he heard about backup quarterback Cameron Newton's arrest on three felony charges Friday.
"I'm shocked as I think most everyone is who knows Cam," Meyer said. "I absolutely fell out of my chair crushed, surprised."
Newton was charged with felony burglary, larceny and obstruction of justice after police reports said he stole a $1,700 laptop from a UF student.
"He made his bed, he's got to sleep in it," Meyer said.
Meyer said he was not focused on the Newton incident Friday or Saturday, but would spend a small amount of time dealing with it Sunday.
