The owner of downtown's Club Decadence and one of the club's dancers were arrested Tuesday when Gainesville Police saw too much during a regular bar check.
Dancer Anginita Jones, 21, was arrested after police reported her G-string left too much exposed as she bent over and danced on a pole at the club at 12 S.W. Second St., according to a GPD report.
Club owner Andrew Shaara, 55, was sitting at the bar watching as Jones performed her routine, the report stated.
Shaara was arrested for not advising Jones to cover up, said GPD spokeswoman Summer Hallett.
Both were booked at the Alachua County Jail, where Jones remains on $5,000 bond.
The exposure broke a Gainesville city law that prohibits nudity in any bars or clubs that serve alcohol, said GPD spokesman Keith Kameg.
Kameg said the arrests are not the first time police have dealt with Shaara, the former owner of the Purple Porpoise, which was shut down.
It's also not the first problem at Club Decadence, proclaimed on its Web site as the "home of beautiful girls on poles."Over the past two years, GPD has reported 58 incidents at Club Decadence, Kameg said.
The problems have mostly been alcohol-related but have also pertained to drug sales, he said.
There have been many fights in the parking lot, Kameg said.
In June, an arrest was made on the property for a concealed firearm.
Police send between four and 10 officers to man the parking lot of the club when it closes every night.
"A place is bordering on unsafe when you have to have that many police there to close a bar," he said.
Police plan to crack down on the club in the future, Kameg said.
"There is obviously a business model that works without police involvement," he said.
"We shouldn't have to babysit the bar, but if we need to, we have the time and resources."
