Five Korean traditional drums echoed inside the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom on Tuesday evening in celebration of UF's Asian Awareness Month.
YooJin Hwang, a UF freshman, chanted rhythmically with the flow from the beat of her drum.
Having learned to play the Korean traditional drums while living in Korea, she said playing at the event seemed relatively easy.
The event, called Seoul Sho' and hosted by UF's Korean Undergraduate Student Association, attracted about 600 people. The show also fell on Pepero Day, a holiday in South Korea similar to Valentine's Day.
Seoul Sho' is the group's largest show of the year, exploring Korean culture from traditional to modern time.
"This is a showcase not only of Korean culture, but of our unity with all the members of the Asian American Student Union," said Husang David Lee, cultural director of the organization.
"It is hard to get everyone in one place at the same time supporting each other, but tonight shows our cultural unity."
The Vietnamese Student Organization, Chinese American Student Association, Filipino Student Association, Indian Student Association and Japanese Club all participated in the night's events.
Members from the different groups performed Korean-inspired songs, dances and plays throughout the night.
The theme of the fashion show, "Many fashions, one dream," depicted both traditional and modern-wear fashion in Korea.
"We wanted this year to be different," Lee said. "We wanted to incorporate a lot more modern Korea this year, through hip-hop, rap and fashion."
