I respect the Alligator and its writers for the business they run, but perhaps a lesson in journalistic values is in order. The College Republican's very successful "Rally for McCain/Palin" at Turlington on Thursday received less than fair or accurate coverage from the Alligator in Friday's issue. As expected, it appeared on page 11, while Obama marches and Campus NOW rallies were on the front page the rest of the week.
In addition, the article tried to link our rally to the ObamaBot. Our rally had nothing to do with the robot; we simply held it in the same location. To top it off, including the quote about our rally being a "petty attempt" was simply the Alligator reflecting its own biased opinions in its selective reporting.
I didn't see any such comments about any Obama campaign maneuvers. I think this is a prime example of the unbridled bias that riddles American media outlets.
On Friday, the College Republicans held another McCain/Palin support rally, where we had about 30 people and considerable support from passersby. My organization is very proud of its efforts, and the only thing we consider "petty" is a low-blow from a paper that is supposed to be nonpartisan.
