I arrived at Tuesday night's first meeting of the new Student Senate apprehensive of what was to come. I was afraid of the ugliness that would follow when the gloves came off in the start of a new Senate session.

I couldn't have been more surprised.

The leaving senators urged bipartisanship from the new senators, newly elected Senate President Jordan Johnson cited his hope for healing the divide in the Senate chambers and a Gator Party senator even urged the progress of an Orange and Blue Party platform point. The most impressive move of the night came from Gator Party Sen. Ashton Charles, who declined a nomination for an important committee seat and instead endorsed Orange and Blue Party Sen. Mark McShera to be voted into the committee in hopes of fostering a unified Senate. After these fantastic displays of bipartisanship Tuesday night, I find myself hopeful for the future of SG and only expect the best from what comes next.
