I found it strange that in an editorial that was otherwise touting the exact same principles as the Students for a Democratic Society-supported referendum against installing hand scanners at UF's gyms, there was need to chastise SDS for their "scanners-signal-the-apocalypse mentality."
If standing in front of the Southwest Recreation Center and distributing informational fliers about the potential problems with hand scanners is indicative of a "scanners-signal-the-apocalypse mentality," then I'm not really sure what students are supposed to do in supporting their referendums.
Should we mentally transmit our political views to others? Or is starting a Facebook group the maximum political engagement the Alligator Editorial Board deems acceptable?
