To UF students responding to Jamie Edgerly's letter regarding her opposition to gay marriage that ran in Monday's Alligator:
All right you all, listen up. You're allowed to disagree with the opinion.
I get that. It's America, and even more so, it's the UF campus. Great. Disagree all you wish. However, none of you have accomplished a thing.
Many - though, thankfully, not all - of the dissenters posting on the Web site were rude and vile, which is completely unacceptable. If you believe Edgerly is wrong, then you may state so, but in a concise, polite and logical manner.
You all are UF students, so act like it. Form an argument that is strong enough to be powerful without stooping to insults, slander and shoddy arguments.
To debase yourselves in such a reckless manner shames not only the very position you are trying to defend, but also our school, under whose name you fire off your rants, which are many times more hurtful and enraging than anything Edgerly could come up with.
We pride ourselves on being the best and the brightest, the future of America. If the attacks I see are truly our future, we're in deep trouble.
