Presidential candidates should be very clear on every issue, especially national security. For example, President Ronald Reagan emphasized the role of a strong military in keeping the peace. His policy eventually resulted in our Cold War victory and helped cause the breakdown of the Soviet Union.
President Bill Clinton, on the other hand, took a weaker stand as he closed many crucial military bases and made little effort to fight international terrorism. This created an irreversible breach of security resulting in the first attack on the continental United States.
Today, the ripple effect of the disaster is still severely interfering with our usual economic strength. Unfortunately, the timing of the global meltdown could not have been any better for Sen. Barack Obama to deceive us all.
We should be aware of this liberal and almost unpatriotic candidate who does not comprehend the need for military strength before making any form of peace. We cannot afford to experiment with another liberal who will weaken our national defense and invite more terrorist attacks.
Hopefully we will exercise good judgement and elect the candidate with the best ideas for our security. If not, we may suffer consequences worse than Sept. 11.
