We inform. You decide.

With the endless supply of political volunteers on campus during the past few months, you'd have to be living in a cave not to know that today is the last day to register for the Nov. 4 elections.

What you might not know, though, is that you can vote wherever you feel most at home.

The Editorial Board has heard all the crazy rumors, but the truth is that you can vote anywhere you can prove residency.

The Alachua County supervisor of elections said deciding what county to vote from is an individual choice.

That choice is more complicated for students than for most people. Maybe you feel more tied to the political issues of the town where you grew up. Maybe living on your own in Gainesville makes you want to have a say in the goings-on of the community outside UF.

We don't really care how you do it. Whether you get an absentee ballot or register in Alachua County, it's fine with us. The Editorial Board won't accost you with our clipboards and demand that you register locally.

But please don't walk into a Gainesville polling place on the first Tuesday in November thinking you'll be able to make your voice heard without a local registration. Don't sit on your ass for a month assuming you can send in an absentee ballot at the last minute without filling out the proper paperwork.

Register wherever you want to - after all, home is where your political heart is. Just make sure you're registered wherever you decide to vote.
