UF coach Urban Meyer confirmed after Wednesday's practice that several of his players will not take part in the Arkansas game this weekend.
Left guard Jim Tartt, running back Emmanuel Moody and backup left guard Marcus Gilbert will all miss the game. This comes on top of Tuesday's announcement that linebacker Dustin Doe would not play.
Meyer seemed frustrated with his injury situation after listing off all the players who would be absent, amplifying the situation with this quote:
"Out, out, out," Meyer said. "Out, out, out, out."
The only injured player Meyer did not describe as "out" was linebacker Ryan Stamper, who Meyer said is questionable. Stamper practiced on Wednesday, but Meyer said he is not 100 percent.
In place of Tartt and Gilbert, Meyer said sophomore Carl Johnson will likely start, but the position is not finalized.
"We've got those three guys still battling for it," Meyer said.
JENKINS COPING WITH LOSS: UF freshman cornerback Janoris Jenkins is dealing with the death of former high school teammate Norman Griffith.
Griffith, a senior and team captain at Pahokee High, was shot and killed early Saturday morning after a dance.
Meyer said he does not know how Jenkins is able to practice after losing a friend.
"He's been playing in light of it," Meyer said. "I don't know how you do that. It's unfathomable. … I talk to him every day about it, just make sure he's okay and staying focused."
PREPARING FOR THE ROAD: Like they did the week before the game at Tennessee, the Gators simulated crowd noise at Wednesday's practice. Speakers pumped sound onto the practice field to get the team prepared for the hostile environment in Fayetteville.
"Today was a hard day," Meyer said. "The crowd noise drives you insane. Two hours of stuff in your ears."
