In response to Wes Hunt's column, "Ignorant electorate bound for failure," I must say I agree that young people should vote, but it is unwise to declare that citizens older than 50 are just "the old" and have "no stake in the future of the nation beyond the next two to three, maybe four presidents."
First of all, you are assuming these people will all make their celestial departure by the age of 64, which isn't likely.
Second, I would hope they would consider their children and grandchildren as having stakes in the future of the nation even after they pass away.
These attitudes discount the wisdom of older generations and play a role in the deterioration of our culture and environment. It would be wise to consider the elderly as having something very important to say. I'm sure you will think your opinions very important, even at the ancient age of 50.
