Brian Steele's complaints about Urban Meyer not opening the playbook are ridiculous. Why would you open the playbook against two non-SEC teams or in a game that was decided quickly in the first quarter? The margin of victory is high, regardless. We're still getting those infamous style points.
Is there a reason to let SEC defensive coordinators plan according to our personnel in certain formations or get a good feel for the play calling? Is there a reason why we should risk injury to run up the score? Is there a reason to score quickly so the defense can tire itself out by staying on the field for a majority of the game? Is there really a need to open the playbook and expose our weaknesses on both sides of the ball this early in the season?
That's not how you win championships. Just ask the 2005 USC Trojans, 2006 Ohio State Buckeyes or the 2007 New England Patriots.
