In response to Monday's editorial, "Plus Side: Minus grades not the end of the world," I would like to formally give the editorial board a giant middle finger.
For some of us, minus grades are the end of the world.
In fact, that 'six-hundredths-of-a-point' average drop found in the study, if applied to UF GPAs, could be the difference between keeping and losing our Bright Futures scholarships next year.
Many students, myself included, depend on those scholarships, and others are studying their butts off to get into professional schools.
Is it fair that those students, or as you so maturely called them, 'nerds,' who will be graduating soon will have to face a possible GPA drop?
All of us will have to fight a losing battle for our jobs against students whose universities do not issue minus grades. What looks better: a 3.35 or a 3.41?
Finally, it is not fair to stereotype the entire student body as lazy partygoers.
Personally, you will never find me at a party, at a club or sleeping in past my 8:30 a.m. class. I already give up my Friday nights to keep my GPA up. I will work just as hard in the following semesters, only to watch my GPA drop because of these minus grades.
Yes, it is the end of the world, especially when it might make the difference between getting into veterinary school or working at McDonald's.
Maybe I will go cry about it - my future is at stake.
