Andrew Meyer is not a hero.
Meyer did not stand face-to-face with tanks in protest of an oppressive government (see Tiananmen Square).
He did not lead a march on Washington, D.C. in an effort to gain basic human rights for people (see Martin Luther King Jr.). He did not participate in protests to gain religious freedoms (see Protestant Reformation).
These others were heroes. They protested to gain basic rights of equality.
What Meyer did do was behave belligerently in what had been a peaceful intellectual discussion. He did throw a temper tantrum when he was politely told to relinquish the microphone. He did avoid several opportunities to conduct himself in a mature fashion as University Police escorted him out. Meyer embarrassed himself, his family and his school, and he abused his right to free speech.
He behaved more like a drunk, visiting fan screaming obscenities than as a protester trying desperately to rally support for a noble cause. He got exactly what he deserved.
