It sure didn't take long for questions about UF's running game to resurface. Just a week after running over Hawaii's defense, the Gators' running backs combined for just seven yards rushing Saturday against Miami.
The Hurricanes used blitz packages and gimmick defenses that UF couldn't seem to adjust to until late in the fourth quarter.Offensive lineman Jason Watkins said opponents often throw several different looks at the Gators' offense in hopes of matching up with their speed all over the field, and the problem was just making the proper reads.
"It was just mental errors," Watkins said. "All the effort and intensity was there, and if we had just corrected a few things it would have been a blowout."
Emmanuel Moody didn't receive a carry Saturday, and UF coach Urban Meyer said he wants to get him more involved in the offense.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: The UF defense was particularly effective against Miami on Saturday.Meyer said defensive lineman Jermaine Cunningham is the biggest reason.
Meyer said Cunningham was the defensive player of the game for the Gators after the junior recorded seven total tackles and one sack.
"He's grown up," Meyer said. "He's carrying himself much differently than he has in the past, and we're real proud of him."
INJURIES: Linebacker Dustin Doe suffered a groin injury during the Miami game on Saturday. The injury isn't expected to be serious, and he is only expected to miss about four days.
Wide receiver Carl Moore, who may have made the biggest play of the day against the Hurricanes, has a hip pointer and is also expected to miss just a few days.
Offensive lineman Jim Tartt is probable for next weekend's game against Tennessee after missing the first two games with a shoulder injury.
