Mark McShera's letter to the editor Tuesday stands as one of the more egregious examples of incendiary fear-mongering I have seen yet during this campaign.
In it, Mr. McShera grossly misrepresented John McCain's economic plan and arrogantly lambasted UF President Bernie Machen for his personal political views.
Contrary to McShera's claims, McCain plans to simplify taxes for taxpayers at all income levels and balance the federal budget by 2013. McCain has presented a coherent economic plan that has been endorsed by more than 300 economists, including five Nobel laureates and at least one at our own university.
Perhaps instead of filling the Alligator's editorial pages with ill-informed points, McShera should research his arguments and present an intellectually honest defense of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama's economic plan.
