Student Body President Kevin Reilly is a magic man.
One minute, he says he's listening to his constituents - the UF student body.
At other times, Reilly spouts statements placating UF's administration.
In the Sept. 5 edition of the Alligator, Reilly said that he thought the revised draft of the Student Conduct Code's alcohol policy had adequately taken into account opinions from a diverse group of students and gone through extensive revisions.
On Wednesday, Reilly told an Alligator reporter that the Student Conduct Code's alcohol policy "is the exact same thing that it is today as it was yesterday as it was a year ago as it was two years ago."
Reilly has a politician's innate ability to address both sides of an argument, but tweak the wording of his messages just enough to convince both parties that he is the good guy.
Policy revisions that don't actually make any changes is so nonsensical our heads are spinning. Aren't revisions and changes one and the same?
Here's our point: As student body president, Mr. Reilly, you are the students' elected accountabili-buddy, not Vice President of Student Affairs Patricia Telles-Irvin's lapdog. You need to shoot straight with us once in a while.
We aren't accusing you of lying or cheating or stealing. We just want you to know that your careful wording is confusing the hell out of us.
