It is a travesty that Rep. Bob Barr really doesn't stand a chance in the national election. His beliefs more closely coincide with mine; however, I am still convinced that a vote for Barr is a vote thrown away. I refuse to stoop my vote down to the level of mere symbolism. I crave real world results, and I truly want what's best for my country. Thus, I must decide who is the lesser of two evils - McCain or Obama?
A depressing choice to be made, without a doubt, but reality demands it of us. I would love to have Barr as my president, but the events that have led to this point in history have determined that it will not be so. A refusal to look at the polling numbers-most Americans don't even know who Barr is-is a refusal to look at reality.
What I am about to propose will no doubt infuriate my fellow Libertarians, but I would like to make a plea to Barr that he humbly face reality and withdraw from the race, throwing his support behind what he sees as the lesser of two evils and lobby said candidate into adopting more Libertarian views.
