Gators starting middle linebacker Brandon Spikes will probably not be playing in Saturday's season-opener against Hawaii, UF coach Urban Meyer said Monday morning.
Spikes hurt his right foot in practice some time last week.
The Gators probably won't need Spikes to be on the field to defeat the Warriors, but it's still not a good sign for the future. Meyer said the injury was nagging and not serious, but any time missed is a cause for concern.
The junior was recently named a defensive captain.
