The Associated Press preseason poll was released on Saturday, and UF found itself in familiar territory.
UF landed in the No. 5 position - the same as their rank in the Coaches Poll - and earned six first-place votes. The Gators scored 1,415 points.
Georgia was awarded the No. 1 spot in the AP poll with 22 first-place votes and 1,528 points. The Bulldogs also were in first place in the Coaches' Poll.
The Ohio State Buckeyes, losers of two straight national championship games, occupy the No. 2 spot and had only one first-place vote less than Georgia. Their 1,506 points were behind the Bulldogs by only 22.
USC and Oklahoma were Nos. 3 and 4 in the AP Poll.
Defending National Champions LSU took the No. 7 ranking, while Auburn is No. 10.
The Southeastern Conference had two more representatives in the top 25 - No. 18 Tennessee and No. 24 Alabama.
Neither Florida State nor Miami was in the top 25, though FSU did receive 41 votes. Miami did not receive any.
