In response to Brandon Sack's July 1 column entitled "U.S. could learn much from Argentina," I have just a couple of questions: What happens when social activism goes wrong? If you want to see activism go too far in a Western nation, just look at France.

They seem to have strikes there for fun, and that's why their taxes are so high, their pensions are so lucrative, and their work week is 35 hours.

That's where you end up if you give in to every disgruntled employee. A good negotiation is where both parties end up unhappy.

Also, I was curious how you felt about smaller groups, such as the wealthy, marching on Washington. Should they block the streets and picket Sen. Barack Obama if he raises the income tax on the wealthy, increases social security taxes and raises capital gains taxes to fund his proposed social programs?

If you add it up, this is a much larger tax hike than the 10 percent proposed in Argentina. Would you have Obama give in to an army of wealthy people heading toward him in business suits and scrubs?
