Student Body Treasurer Paul Drayton has announced that this summer he is taking an internship in New York rather than doing the job his fellow students elected him to do.
Brazenly, he has not resigned his position as treasurer.
Mr. Drayton learned of his acceptance to the internship program before beginning his term as treasurer.
He accepted the internship, knowing that it would keep him from being at UF this summer.
Rather than resign his office, Mr. Drayton chose to ignore the basic principle that Student Government officers should serve the students to the best of their ability.
They should not pursue personal gain while leaving their duties to other officers.
Mr. Drayton, in an act of blatant bad faith, is leaving UF for two months to pursue his personal interests, at the cost of the student body.
Yet, he purports to represent the student body, to serve it, while leaving his duties behind and keeping his title.
I ask Mr. Drayton to be honest about his priorities, and I ask him to uphold the principles of Student Government by tendering his resignation before he leaves for New York.
