This is in response to the letter to the editor by LaShanta Harris.
Harris deems the editors of the Alligator as insensitive for publishing Ryan Moulton's Opinions cartoon, featuring the hands of an African-American holding a gun.
I think that it's insensitive to imply that the only proper way to draw this cartoon would have been for the gun to be in the hands of a white man.
Harris' quick assumptions and rash judgments are what fuel racial stereotypes in this country.
And might I point out that had she spent more time evaluating the message of the cartoon rather than searching for a nonexistent, subconscious racial slight, she might have noticed that the hands in the cartoon are not dark skinned but are actually gloved.
The forearms are white!
Racism cannot die if people continue to look for it in places where it did not previously exist.
