A free public reception will be held today for an exhibit at the Thomas Center Galleries featuring the works of local artists.

On display are 2-D and 3-D creations from four local artists who won Juror's Choice regional awards.

The reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

City of Gainesville Visual Arts Coordinator Erin Friedberg said she believes in the value of exhibiting local artists because they each have something unique to contribute to the community at large.

Featured artist Angela Hoppe said she is also interested in the promotion of Gainesville arts.

"I want to stress that the Gainesville art community is very good and needs to be recognized more," Hoppe said.

The exhibit will run until July 6 and will be on display in the Main Gallery of the Thomas Center at 302 NE Sixth Ave.
