Redshirt freshman linebacker Jerimy Finch requested and has been granted his release, UF sports information director Zack Higbee confirmed Monday.

No reason was disclosed for the departure.

Finch was the rated the nation's top safety by Rivals.com and a surprise commit to the Gators. He converted to linebacker during fall practice last season and played in the first three games before breaking his right leg against Tennessee. He likely would have seen a decent amount of playing time on as a backup linebacker, behind veteran starters Brandon Spikes, Dustin Doe and A.J. Jones.

It is unclear where the Indianapolis native will go from here, although Indiana may be a likely destination.
