This summer, beaches all over the world will feature all kinds of swimsuits: itsy-bitsy ones, tankini versions and yes, even the cut-away. The cut-away suit, also known as the "monokini," is a trend that I will undoubtedly avoid this summer.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being fashionable by the pool, but having one strip of fabric connecting the top of my suit to the bottom just seems like a bad tan line waiting to happen.
My mom is all about this season's monokini, and I laughed at her when she told me this proudly.
She reprimanded me for being "so out of the fashion loop" this summer and told me to check out Target's Web site.
Sure enough, there they were - in their very own category and everything. And much to my dismay, some of them were actually cute.
But in the end, if you want to look fashionable this summer without trying too hard, a trend that will never go out of style is your classic all-black and all-white bikinis.
I think every girl should own one of each because they are the epitome of beach chic. Throw on a pair of this season's colored Ray-Bans in white or red and you're ready for any tropical destination.
