With budget cuts being carried out in all areas of UF, some of the areas affected are the Korean and Vietnamese language programs. Important coursework should not even be a choice for cuts if we want to be a top-10 school. Diversity in our curriculum is one of the keys to achieving that goal.
Without such programs, the school will be denying many students their chance to refine their home language or will even be denying other students new cultural experiences. Cuts shouldn't have to be made by a top university like ours, but due to the poor allocation of funds by the government, our schools face difficult cuts. We as a community need to try to at least voice our opinions and keep our language programs alive and well here at UF.
