Shame on you, Alligator! I was extremely offended and surprised by the cartoon associated with the Opinions section in the May 22 edition of the Alligator. I cannot believe the editors chose to depict the person supposedly robbing the U.S. with a gun as having the black hands of an African American.
Why did the hands have to be black? It is disturbing the editors would be so willing to promote the racist stereotype of African Americans as criminals.
I do not mean to imply that the editors are racist, but you are, at the very least, insensitive. The Alligator should be more careful to avoid racist messages that can be conveyed through imagery, however inadvertently.
