Harvin has heel surgery; team readies for spring game

UF receiver Percy Harvin underwent surgery late Monday night to repair a nagging right heel injury that will keep him out of action until summer practices.

The sophomore has had heel pain on and off since high school, but it was mistakenly treated as tendinitis before this spring when the speedster suffered discomfort in his knee and heel from compensating for the injury.

To make matters worse for the receiving corps, Carl Moore sprained his ankle and left practice Monday.

Moore is in position to earn a starting job after transferring from Sierra (Calif.) College.

COUNTING DOWN: Only two more practices remain until UF takes the field for its annual spring game. Meyer said Wednesday's practice will be the last winner-loser day until the team suits up for the season opener.

Meyer said he is considering announcing after Wednesday's practice which players will play Saturday.

"I've not done that and I'm excited about seeing some of these players. And they've earned that right," Meyer said. "I want to really watch the competitive edge, the competitive excellence and guys showing up to play on Wednesday."
