The scariest part of Dominic Palvisak's Monday letter on the abortion bill came at the end when he disclosed he was a second-year law student. I can understand how the emotion surrounding the abortion issue can lead many to support laws requiring women to seek ultrasounds before obtaining abortions, but this person is studying to be a lawyer.
He should understand the ramifications of laws that require any person to get any procedure they don't want. Consider further what it means if the government can also mandate a procedure for the purpose of coercing a citizen. His argument revolves around the question, "Since when is preventing women from having abortions such a horrendous act that it warrants attacks from the media?" As someone who is anti-abortion, I have become increasingly uncomfortable with the ends justifying the means mentality of my ideological allies. What is horrendous, Mr. Palvisak, is not just the abortions. It is the fact that men like yourself would eviscerate the rest of our rights to prevent them.
